Haines is pleased to announce that MIKE HENDERSON'S The Yellow Pencil (1979) has been acquired by the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive.
The Yellow Pencil is part of a series of mixed media collages created by Henderson in the years following his graduation from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1970, leaving behind the explicitly political, figurative style that had defined his early paintings. Assembling pieces of painted, shaped, and burnt canvas, Henderosn conjures ethereal, otherworldly spaces filled with promise, mystery, and hope. The Yellow Pencil is currently being showcased at BAMPFA in What Has Been and What Could Be, a collection exhibition bringing a contemporary perspective to the museum's global art holdings, on view through July 7, 2024.
