Ai Weiwei, Don Quixote
The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León, León, Spain
November 9, 2024 - May 18, 2025
Ai Weiwei. Don Quixote brings together works produced by the Chinese artist-activist over the last 20 years.  Curated by Alvaro Rodriguez Fominaya, Don Quixote explores the central themes of AI WEIWEI'S practice, interweaving autobiographical aspects with issues such as the refugee crisis, aspects of international politics, and the impact of artificial intelligence on the future of human development.

This is the first exhibition to display in depth Ai's series of paintings made with LEGO blocks, including a recreation of Francisco Goya's The Third of May. The project also brings together a selection of installations and monumental works, including La Commedia Umana (2017-2021), a chandelier made from 2,000 pieces of black Murano glass and over eight metres high that tells us about the cycle of life and death, and which took four years to make.
