Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian is included in Lumen: The Art and Science of Light at the Getty Center.
Focusing on the arts of western Europe, Lumen explores the ways in which the science of light was studied by Christian, Jewish, and Muslim philosophers, theologians, and artists during the "long Middle Ages" (800-1600 CE). During this period science (or the study of the physical universe) served as the connective thread for varying cultures across Europe and the Mediterranean, uniting scholars who inherited, translated, and improved upon a common foundation of ancient Greek scholarship.
Lumen is among more than 60 exhibitions and programs presented as part of PST ART. Returning in September 2024 with its latest edition, PST ART: Art & Science Collide, this landmark regional event explores the intersections of art and science, both past and present. PST ART is presented by Getty.
