What Has Been and What Could Be: The BAMPFA Collection
Berkeley Art Museum, CA
June 7, 2023 - June 9, 2024
The Yellow Pencil, an early acrylic and canvas collage by Mike Henderson, is included in What Has Been and What Could Be, a year-long presentation of the BAMPFA collection at the Berkeley Art Museum. Ranging from seventeenth-century Japanese scrolls and eighteenth-century European paintings by women artists, to feminist art, quilts, and conceptual art, the exhibition emphasizes key strengths of the collcetion while also identifying areas for further reflection and growth.  What Has Been and What Could Be strives to connect BAMPFA's expansive past to the urgent ideas and issues of our present. Bringing together works from disparate times and locales, it foregrounds the gallery as a space for questioning and expanding art historical narratives.
